It seems that every time I go to the library, I find loads of titles that weren’t there previously. I’m not complaining, it’s never boring, and so far, I’ve been having a lot of luck finding the books that I have listed as To-Read.
Scored a Persephone title I didn’t think I was going to be able to read unless I bought it as an e-book or at their shop in London. I love it when I get to save a buck.
I’ve already finished Elizabeth Taylor’s The Soul of Kindness and hope to have a separate post on it soon. Prior to reading this book, I was totally prepared to dislike (‘hate’ is such a strong word) the character of Flora; she’s a smug, self-absorbed young woman who was spoiled and sheltered as a girl and continues to be so as an adult. She means well, but can’t see past her own naive sense of self. I couldn’t dislike Flora, instead I found myself exasperated with her friends and her husband for enabling her in the first place. Anyway, the book ended up being a lot more humorous than I expected, and I can’t wait to read Taylor’s other works.
I’m currently reading David Vann’s Legend of a Suicide, a book that wasn’t on my To-Read list and I had no prior knowledge of, but was chosen because of the cover. Once in a while, I’m not ashamed to admit it.
